The Damage Is Done

By Katherine Sortini

★★★★★
“As an actor and storyteller, Katherine is nothing short of incredible. Whether you're laughing at jokes, feeling almost physically constricted by tension, trying to hold back tears or simply sitting in stunned silence, you will be captivated and completely engaged with every sentence.”

★★★★★
“This show makes you laugh until you cry, and cry until you’re bereft of any more tears. Sortini’s performance is hilariously real and raw, personifying the feeling of an ache you fear is incurable. Fully immersed, you’re never once allowed a chance to doubt that what you see is anything other than Isadora’s reality. Yet in the end, Sortini allows us to realise that the love Isadora seeks might be something she needs to give other people first. If it is a reality of life that damage will find us all, Sortini unflinchingly challenges that truth, with the simple suggestion that assuming anyone is broken is what truly holds us back.” -

The Damage is Done is a gripping and intimate one-person performance that delves into queerness, sisterhood, and immigrant family dynamics. At its heart is Isadora, a young queer woman growing up with her sister, Kristina ‘Kris,’ in a tight-knit Italian-Australian family. When a devastating secret about Kris surfaces, Isadora makes the bold decision to come out, thinking nothing could be more scandalous. She’s wrong.

Through sharp wit, emotional vulnerability, and powerful storytelling, The Damage is Done lays bare the tangled web of identity, love, shame, and the complex truths we inherit and resist.

Deus Ex Femina has received an Adelaide Fringe Foundation Grant to present The Damage Is Done at Adelaide Fringe in 2026.
